THE BIBLIOTHÈQUE PUBLIQUE D’INFORMATION MOVES INTO THE LUMIÈRE BUILDING (PARIS 12TH)

Paris, July 22, 2025 – Praemia REIM, a leading real estate asset management firm in Europe, announces the arrival of the Bibliothèque Publique d’Information (Bpi) in the Lumière building, located in the Bercy district of Paris’s 12th arrondissement. This move, effective since June 2, 2025, follows the renovation works at the Centre Pompidou – the Bpi’s historical location – which will continue until 2030. The Bpi will open its doors to the public in the Lumière building on August 25, 2025.

Praemia REIM, a pioneer of real estate models open to both public and private institutions
This is the first time a national public library has been hosted within a private building. This project reflects the growing trend of mixed uses within the Lumière building, where culture, education, work, and services coexist harmoniously. It also illustrates the vision promoted by Praemia REIM France, which aims to sustainably enhance its real estate portfolio by creating hybrid spaces capable of accommodating both public and private stakeholders, while addressing societal and urban challenges and creating high value for the territory. As such, the Bpi will operate alongside institutions as diverse as the Ministry of the Interior, BNP Paribas, METRO, Forvia, Kedge Business School, and Comet Meetings.

Lumière: a flagship building in the heart of Bercy
With 140,000 m², Lumière is one of the largest office complexes in central Paris. Ideally located in Bercy, just steps from Gare de Lyon, it stands out for its accessibility, its mix of uses, and its high environmental and technological standards (HQE, WELL HSR, and WiredScore Platinum certifications).
Lumière offers a unique range of services: six restaurants, a cooking school, a gym, a podcast studio, a solidarity café, parking facilities, and more than 7,000 m² of outdoor spaces. In 2025, it will be further enhanced with a running track, landscaped gardens, and a plant-filled lobby designed as a true village square.

Real estate serving the common good
The Lumière building is more than just real estate – it’s a living space. Sharing is at the heart of the project, notably through the creation of Kawaa Lumière, a solidarity café. This initiative is part of the social ambition that gives meaning to the building, where suspended meals and charity galas will also be held to benefit local associations.

Charles Ragons, Managing Director of the Real Estate Division at Praemia REIM France, states: “Welcoming the Centre Pompidou’s library to Lumière is a great source of pride for us. Hosting such a prestigious cultural institution, committed to the values of knowledge-sharing, education, innovation, and inclusion, perfectly illustrates our ambition to create unique living and experiential spaces tailored to our tenants' specific needs. This opening demonstrates our commitment to building a new generation of responsible and vibrant buildings. More broadly, it reflects the daily work of the Praemia REIM France teams who strive to design, improve, and adapt our real estate assets, by blending and optimizing uses and surfaces to provide functional, attractive, and sustainable environments.”

Christine Carrier, Director General of the Bpi, adds: “The relocation of the Bibliothèque Publique d’Information to the Lumière building is an exceptional opportunity to continue and strengthen our mission. The vast spaces allow us to make nearly 350,000 books, records, and films available to the public, while accommodating up to 1,500 people simultaneously.”
She continues: “We are delighted to bring our many services to Lumière and look forward to unveiling our cultural programming, starting with an opening weekend event on September 5–7, followed by the Press Start video game festival.”
